"Cristina Comencini, consummate mistress of Italian family drama, grippingly dramatizes the lifelong shame and trauma experienced by the victims of childhood abuse. More than in her previous tales of dysfunctional families ... she lightens the weight of angst with well-designed subplots, secondary characters and moments of tender humour." - Deborah Young, Variety

Sabina (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) is beautiful, enjoys her job and loves her boyfriend Franco. But is she truly happy? For some time now strange nightmares have tormented her, and finding herself pregnant forces open a disquieting window to her own inner life: her memories of adolescence, her family, of the bourgeois rituals at once both strict and reassuring. But these are only the surface. From deeper down something much darker and more disturbing is about to be revealed.

To seek answers Sabina travels to America where her brother Daniele has built an emotional fortress of his own. Though Sabina and her brother’s troubles are at the core of this film, it never becomes maudlin or sentimental. Generous space is given to the tremendous supporting cast, whose lives and love affairs are explored with equal acuity and wit, in particular the burgeoning relationship between Sabina’s gay, blind childhood friend Emilia (Stefania Rocca) and her straight-talking boss Maria.

“Powerfully moving but laced with incisive wit, ‘Don’t tell’ has terrific performances with a wise tone and polished look.” – Ray Bennett, Hollywood Reporter
