A clever crime thriller from acclaimed Oscar-winning-director, Gabriele Salvatores (‘Mediterraneo’). ‘Quo vadis baby?’, adapted from the eponymous novel by Grazia Verasani, is an absorbing and intense work with remarkable photography in an intense voyeuristic style.

‘Quo vadis baby?’ which takes its title from a line of dialogue in ‘Last Tango in Paris’, follows a feisty female private investigator, in a rut personally and professionally, who decides to re-investigate her sister's suicide 16 years ago. Watching video diary tapes that her sister made before her death and interviewing friends and her own family, the shocking portrait of her sister's life as a would-be model and actress begins to emerge.

Packed with clever cinematic references, made with supreme skill and visual style, ‘Quo vadis baby?’ is a sophisticated and surprising noir film that manages to both be exciting and distinctive.

The movie is anchored by the ferocious performance of Angela Baraldi; the fuel for this film is her exquisitely detailed, powerfully searing performance. Claudia Zanella is also a revelation as Ada; her performance exists only via videotapes, eerily disturbing and beguiling in turn.

“A superbly surly turn from real-life rocker Angela Baraldi” Matthew Leyland, BBC UK
