Michele Soavi, former assistant to Dario Argento, brings this highly anticipated crime story based on Massimo Calotto's cult novel to the big screen, starring Alessio Boni (‘The best of youth’, ‘Don’t be scared’) and Michele Placido, director of the widely acclaimed film ‘Crime novel’ which also screens in this year's festival.

Opportunistic leftist Giorgio (Boni) has been hiding out in the Central American jungle ever since a bomb he set off killed a passer-by. Tired of life as an accomplice to guerrillas for whom he feels no affinity, he returns to Italy to seek legal rehabilitation, becoming an informant for corrupt cop Anedda (Placido) in order to reduce his jail term. Giorgio is without guilt or conscience as he launches into a new series of scams and crooked deals, and everyone around him is morally compromised.

Brutal, chilling and utterly compelling, ‘Goodbye my love, goodbye’ is the gripping story of one man's battle against destiny, his struggle to escape from himself and his own black history of violence, and is ultimately a scathing portrayal of an Italy wallowing in corruption.

‘Goodbye my love, goodbye’, named after Caterina Caselli's 1960s pop song, won Best Music at the David Di Donatello (Italian Academy) Awards 2006 and Best Actor (Boni) at the Italian Golden Globes 2006.
