Walter (Carlo Delle Piane), a pensioner, refuses to surrender to the rush of time, realising that at his age there cannot be much life left.  Egoistic, selfish, imaginative, Walter is very crafty at filling the long empty days.  He calls toll-free numbers to argue with operators; puts his home up for sale without any real intention of selling it, allowing him to engage prospective buyers in conversation; and befriends a ten-year-old girl Sara, who accompanies him on his bizarre adventures.

One day Walter spots an article in a newspaper that startles him: according to recent statistics for every young person working, there is an old person staying at home.

Walter sets out to look for this young alter ego and, together with Sara, he meets a very shy and repressed young man, Piero (Pier Francesco Favino) and strikes up an awkward alliance.  The outcome of this conflicting relationship between the two men puts pressure on Piero to court the very first woman of his life, with hilarious results.

‘Sorry you can’t get through’, with its masterful performances, adds a contemporary twist to the tradition of classic Italian comedy
