June 2001. David is in his last year studying physics at the most prestigious Italian university, the Normale University in Pisa. A top student, David lives in a parallel dimension made up of thoughts of infinite systems, with little engagement in day-to-day life. On the day of his last exam he encounters Viola in the hallway. She hands him a leaflet and continues on her way. Without a second thought he follows her and ends up involved in a student meeting. For the first time in his life David starts asking questions and making choices: what should he do? Leave the assembly or risk missing the exam? And later on, give up Viola or betray Luca, her boyfriend and his best friend? What’s best? To be led by rationality or to follow your heart?

In June 2001 the G8 met in Genoa and the resulting riots and death heralded the beginning of the fight of many against globablisation. ‘Now or never’ covers the G8 protests from a fictional position, but viewing this film makes you feel you have been drawn into the political turbulence that surrounded that conference in Genoa on those fateful days. Passing through moments of comedy and moments of drama, demonstrations, and sit-ins, the story shows David discovering a new path full of passion and social conscience.
