The protagonist of the film, Flavio, has a jaded impression of brotherhood: “A brother is a stranger who is born either before or after you”. He is already ten years old when his mother gives birth to his brother Francesco. From then on he must share life, his mother’s love, his father’s respect, the family company and, why not, women.

Francesco at thirty years old is an inveterate single. He is dissatisfied with the world as it is, but unwilling to try to change it. A cockeyed philosopher, ironic and disillusioned, he faces yet another date in the dark organised by his sister-in-law Laura. During the evening he thus meets Elisa. Fragile, blonde, ethereal, she is the dance teacher of Flavio’s daughters. She is also Flavio’s secret lover for the past two years.

We see Francesco and Elisa, Flavio and Laura try desperately to come to terms with their shared existence, even though for each it means something different. The film portrays both their joy and loss with powerful visual images that will surprise you from the outset.

Based on the novel with the same name by Lorenzo Licalzi
