Every man has his unmentionable secret. But Titta di Girolamo (Toni Servillo) must have more than one. It’s obvious. Why else would a fifty year old man from the South of Italy be living in a Swiss hotel room for eight years, under the anonymous citizenship of a Swiss Italian? His days are spent in the hotel lobby, playing cards, observing the bartender and taking delivery of millions in cash.

‘The consequences of love’ is an ice-cool existential thriller in a style reminiscent of ‘Memento’ and ‘The usual suspects’. The secrets of Titta’s isolated existence slowly reveal themselves, leading to an enthralling conclusion. This mesmerizing tale with superb direction, fascinating performances and precise production design, is a genuine festival highlight.

“Undeniably arthouse, yet as thrilling and polished as anything in the multiplex, The Consequences Of Love is an audacious, hugely rewarding gem of a film that demands to be seen. What, exactly, are you waiting for?” Jonathan Trout, BBC.

“The truth behind Di Girolama's ‘unmentionable secret’ rewards an audience's patience with a wholly original take on a classic staple.” Howard Swains, The Times

“Paolo Sorrentino's stylish, elliptical thriller, The Consequences of Love, tells what is basically the same story as Hemingway's The Killers, and plays us along for most of the way with hints of dark things in the past of its enigmatic hero” Philip French, The Observer
